Well, folks, the cat is finally out of the bag.
Darrel "D-Rail" McNeil of the Texas Rangers and former owner of Paintball USA is back in business!!!
The management of #1 Paintball has defaulted on their lease and been forcibly evicted from the property and after exhaustive negotiations, Darrel is back in the saddle.
For those old schoolers out there, the name Paintball USA stirs up some fond memories. Well, that name is no more, but the spirit and know-how that drove that institution will be brought to bear at Texas Ranger Paintball.
Bobby "Trips" Goedecke will be the field manager and his first task will be to clean up, repair, restore and replace the down-trodden mess that had once been a premier scenario and rec-ball field. There is much work to be done, especially on the scenario portion of the field.
Many will smile when I mention the return of "Pallet Town" and the "Terran Base". They will be seeing a comeback in some form or fashion. The entire field will be utilized (not just the "back-40") when the scenario aspect of the park swings into action.
Having missed those "good old days" this comes to me as VERY good news.
Now for the bad news: The park is in such bad shape that management has asked for everyone's help.
I attended a meeting last night that had over 50 people. Represented were every major and most minor paintball teams in the greater Houston area. This meeting not only announced the news, but also outlined the path the new management team will take with regards to getting the business up and running, and how much work there is to be done.
The tentative opening day for the park is October 3, 2009. Their most optimistic forecast for hosting a scenario is Spring of 2010, but Fall is more realistic.
Their motto is "Paintball done RIGHT". We will see. I, for one, am VERY hopeful.
Anyone that wants to offer their services to clear ground, swing a hammer, man a saw or just generally help out, send Woodman a PM and I will forward to you the necessary contact information.
